Money and Education

We like to think of public education of our children as a pure science that is populated by people who are above the humdrum worries of life and live only for the joy of filling young minds with truth. But like anything else, schools do well or poorly largely driven by money. Now one of the justifications for government funding of schools is you take out of the educational process any graft or influence peddling by private interests. In theory if corporate interests or even wealthy individuals can influence the schools because of wealth, they could also dictate the curriculum and the “slant” the lessons might take and as such put a spin on the truth because the schools become dependent on the funding source.

So, again in theory, our public schools should be above funding issues because tax dollars should pay for everything so no one political or cultural influence can set the agenda of what is to be taught in school. But that concept only holds up in theory, of course. If you spend any time in association with pubic or private schools, you know that money and education are intimately intermingled and there is plenty of influence going on all the time.

At the public level, sports is one of the big factors that drives public education, particularly at the high school level. In big cities, the high school sport teams are often feeder schools to colleges who have a vital financial interest in recruiting the best high school players. So money flows from professional sports to the colleges and even to high schools to influence schools to pour a lot of time and money into their sports programs. The intense rivalry and interest in high school sports in your town reflects that emphasis.

So what’s the problem with loving sports? Nothing except that very often large high schools will divert huge percentages of their budgets to the sports program that only serves a fraction of the students of the school and those funds are taken away from academic and arts programs which suffer as a result. So while a hundred boys might benefit from a well run football program, thousands of students suffer with smaller classes, inferior classroom equipment and underpaid teachers because the sports teams get all the attention and the money.

At the private level, money buys influence even more blatantly. While your tuition and fees do pay the basic bills of the school, private schools are entrepreneurial and ambitious so the more wealthy parents and parents who can put a lot of money into the school naturally find their way to the school board to make decisions about curriculum and the direction the school will take as an educational institution in the future.

This means that well meaning parents who are not wealthy are not able to help the school stay focused on their primary calling which is to bring the highest level of education to the student body. The situation can also be aggravated at both the public and private school level when corporate interests get involved and you see corporate sponsorships of school programs resulting in subtle advertising occurring all around the campus. It sends a message to the students that the school can and has been bought and those corporate interests can have an influence over curriculum as well.

As parents, it’s your job to monitor the extent to which funding changes the quality of education of a school. At the public school level, you can voice your concern at school board meetings or in other public venues. But the ultimate proactive way to get an education for your child that is not tainted by financial influence is to leave the public school setting and seek a private school that has not succumb to those temptations yet. If you fund such a school, get involved heavily and do all you can via fundraising to try to minimize the influence of wealthy individuals and corporations so the school that is there to serve your child can do so without the burden of influence from the ones that pay the bills.

Kids learn by playing, and so the line between kids educational games, and games that are just about fun has always been a little blurry. As an educator, I have always thought that children educational games are one of the most important ways to develop thinking skills from a very early age and to help the kids become more creative and more involved students. Of course, what educational means really depends on the age. For example, educational games for preschoolers are about understanding really simple things about how the world works and how different things fit together. These kinds of childrens educational games can be as simple as having to fit different blocks into holes of the same shape and size. But children educational games should really grow with the children who are using them, and because more elaborate and sophisticated as the minds of all of the lids start to grow and develop.

For example, older children educational games might have to do with math skills and concepts. Perhaps you can play bingo where you call out a math problem and the kids have to mark down if they have the answer to it or not. This type of children educational games can be a real help with getting them to learn all of their basic skills and facts. Some kids get in to learning right off the bat, but for the others, it is really an important thing for you to try to make learning fun for them. Otherwise, what is the point of it all, really?

The very best thing about using children educational games in teaching is that they allow the kids to take a sense of fun into the rest of their lives. Much too often, people grow up and start to get involved in work, and forget that life is supposed to be a good time, and that work should always blur along with play. By making sure that the kids can use children educational games whenever they want to, you ensure that they will never ever lose that passion for learning that is so crucial for a good life. And that is the most important thing, after all. If they can keep that, then they basically have it made, and that is no lie. children educational games can inspire both a life of learning, and a life of play. Don't your kids deserve both?

The Positive Influence of Being Involved in your Child's Education

It has been shown many times over in research studies that a parent who is involved in their child's education has a positive impact. It's reflected in improved grades and test scores, strong attendance, a higher rate of homework completion, higher graduation rates, improved attitudes and behaviors in the child, as well as the child being more likely to become involved in positive extra-curricular activities. Send out the message early in your child's education that your home is an involved and active supporter of their learning.

Probably the most important element of a positive learning environment at home is structure. But what is too little or too much? If we're too lenient or expect too little, your child may become disorganized or unmotivated. If we're too rigid and strict, it can cause undue pressure or cause your child to feel unable to deliver on your expectations.

So what's the best way to meet in the middle and create a positive learning environment for your child at home?

Help your child develop a work area where they can study and focus without being interrupted. Children usually do better when they have a private study area away from interruption. If your child prefers doing their work at the kitchen table, make sure other family members understand the kitchen is off-limits during study time. Make sure your child has plenty of supplies and reference materials available and that the area has plenty of light. Regardless of its location, ensure the area is quiet and that your child can study and work uninterrupted.

Agree on a regular time for studying. To help your child make homework a habit, schedule a set time each day for homework. Perhaps breaking study time up into smaller increments would work better for your child than one solid period. Work with your child to find out what works best for them. In addition, be sure your child has a sufficient break between the time they arrive home from school before they sit down to work in order to 'decompress' from their school day.

Help your child develop a method of keeping track of homework assignments. This can be a difficult chore for some students. Developing a successful way of keeping track of assignments then scratching them off as completed helps them develop a productive method for accomplishing tasks later in life.

Develop a positive line of communication with your child's teacher. Teachers are usually very willing and excited to work with an involved parent to help the child's overall success in school. Whether it's notes sent back and forth in your child's backpack or an e-mail correspondence, make sure your teacher knows your open for suggestions as how to better assist them in the homework and study process at home.

How Helpful is it for a Teacher to Come to Class with a Teaching Education Degree?

Teachers love their teaching degrees; because advancement in teaching careers are completely tied to them. The more teaching education degrees you have, the more you get on the inside track for a promotion and tenure. Still, the way teacher training courses are run, the criticism against them gets louder every year, some of the loudest coming from the very people who run teaching education degree institutions. There are more than a thousand graduate teacher training colleges out there, and they say that perhaps one in ten could be doing a decent job, if that. It is really possible that most of them could find themselves bankrupt very soon. In fact, it is possible that President Obama doesn't really believe that advancement for a teacher at a public school should even be connected to how many master's degrees the teacher has. What would be better the government feels, is a system that would reward the teacher with more promotions and better pay, for better results - better performance among her students, and better graduation rates. So is the government right? Should they really stop rewarding teachers for what kind of qualifications and credentials they bring to the table?

Actually, Tennessee already rewards teachers not for how much theoretical knowledge she's accumulated with more than one teaching education degree, but for how her students perform on standardized tests. Other states like New York hate the idea so much, they've actually passed laws to make it unlawful for a school to reard a teacher primarily for the way her class performs on tests. At this time, what gives the teacher a raise is how long she's been on the job, and how many degrees she can boast of. It might be a good idea to hire a teacher based on how many degrees she has to begin with. But once she has the job, ongoing rewards, promotions and raises, should come all from how well she does at the job. Those degrees do not really have anything at all to do with how well she knows her students.

President Obama has another novel idea - only fund education schools based on how well their graduates do at their teaching jobs. We might actually find if we look for this information, that the teachers who come from ordinary less snooty schools actually outperform the teachers who come with some Ivy League teaching education degree. Maybe the regular teachers from regular backgrounds actually have a better understanding of how ordinary students will think and learn. So if we don't quite approve of judging a teacher's ability by the kind of teaching education degree she holds, what do we recommend? These days, lots of parents put their faith in having their child being taught by a Teach for America recruit. Any day, they would trust practical everyday hard won on-the-job knowledge mixed in with intelligence and a go-for-it attitude, over lots of bookish degrees. Those teachers are well-educated, they know their subjects, and they have an impatience to get their knowledge to count.

Perhaps master's degrees are important, if a teacher is to try to absorb the goings-on in a class, and form ideas on the future of the K-12 classroom. And this is what the Thinking Skills Coalition and the Partnership for the 21st Century recommend as well. Perhaps then, the teaching education degree has its place, but not for all teachers. Perhaps only teachers who wish to go on to become educators and policy makers, would need to go that far.

Fashion Designer Education: A Recipe for a Successful Career

Turn around you, or just look in your closet, and every design on the clothes, shoes or bags you see is the creative work of fashion designers. This means that the nature of their work requires creativity, passion and dedication. Fashion designer education is a vital part of equipping them with the skills and knowledge required to handle fabrics and ornamentation in different textiles.

Fashion designer education usually lasts between two and four years. Within this period, budding fashion designers either earn an associate degree or a bachelor’s degree. The course work covers textiles, colors, tailoring and sewing, fashion history, pattern making, computer-aided designing and basic design by hand. Mathematics, psychology and human anatomy are also other subjects that a person learns in design school. After graduation, some designers usually take a business related course such as fashion merchandizing or marketing for purposes of improving their business acumen in readiness for the ups and downs of the competitive design market.

One can also attain fashion designer education in the post secondary institutions approved to provide art and designs programs throughout the country. Although such are not universities, they are accredited with the necessary status to award fashion design degrees to students who excel. Before admission to such however, one needs to have completed some basic art and designs lessons successfully.

Since fashion and design is an art mainly reliant on talent and dedication rather than fashion designer education, talented people can still excel without joining institutions of higher learning. Such can gain some of the skills needed by taking up internships in design houses or cloth manufacturing firms. Here, they are able to gain valuable sewing and pattern-making skills. They are also able to learn the art of efficient communication with fabric suppliers, manufacturers and people who purchase their designs.

On the job, fashion designer education is easily obtained when beginners work as sketching assistants or pattern makers for the experienced fashion designers. The experienced designer works as a supervisor who approves the designs or guides the less-experienced beginners into making good designs. Usually, beginner designers also learn the art of researching the market for current trends and preferences from their seniors. This can either be through a market research or through utilizing published information on the same.

Just as other products targeting the consumer market, the designers need to make designs that will fit and spur demand within the consumer market. They do this by designing the right styles, fabrics and colors that will appeal to the consumer market. Overall, fashion designer education helps people interested in the design career to understand every aspect of the fashion design world. This is in addition to equipping them with valuable skills and knowledge necessary for excelling in the fashion industry.

Getting your Children off the Gore and on Educational Games

As a mother of three active boys under ten who just can't see why they can't be allowed to play the latest versions of Crysis, Demon’s Souls or Left 4 Dead 2, I'm always on the lookout for a way to turn all their energy towards something that could help them grow. I'm not about to plunk them in front of the TV to watch the Discovery Channel though; I can't believe that watching TV could be educational - no matter how good the intent of the programming. And so, I've been scouring the Internet high and low for educational games - something that could bring in my children a kind of respect for science and logical thinking, if possible. It so happens that I've come across several of these. Sometimes, my children share my enthusiasm for them, and sometimes they look at them like a bowl of bean curd and spinach on the breakfast table. If you keep looking and trying out new games for your kids, you are bound to get something that should grab their fancy at one time or another.

Let's start looking at some of the best science games there are for under-tens:

1. Red Remover - no this is not a game about fighting the communists. A child who fires up this game, will find a screen full of brightly colored building blocks, all stacked up in curiously precarious fashion. Some of the blocks are red, some are pink, and the rest are green or blue. The programming of the game understands gravity. Any block that is moved carelessly, will fall; the goal the child is tasked with is, the removal of all the red blocks, while paying attention to the kind of clicking that each color of block requires (a long story, that rule), and also paying attention to gravity. There are 45 levels to this Flash game; while an adult could quickly complete all of them, a child would have endless fun trying to make the laws of physics obey him.

2. Another favorite is a game called Cubic Disturbance (I had quite a time convincing my children that it didn't mean they had to do math). The goal in this game is to move a yellow block to the lowest level on the game. You can't possibly just pick it up and move it. You get it to move a little bit each time you strategically place a bomb next to it and let it off. Things work according to the natural laws of motion, and the fewer the bombs a child uses to achieve his goal, the higher the score.

3. Okay, these educational games are getting a little violent now - bombs first, and breaching a castle next in a game called Crush the Castle. If you've ever seen Castle Clout, press the Castle isn't that different. The story centers on the Redvonian king who has a terrible penchant for capturing and crushing castles. King Blutias of the neighboring state of Crushtania is so alarmed at being a tempting target that he goes and builds some very solid castles. It turns out that this just appears to the Redvonian King as a very tempting challenge. The child playing is the King's finest military mind, and it is his responsibility to find a way to Crush the Castle.

4. Final on her list of educational games for children is the attractively named Fantastic Contraption. It takes a child some time to really learn how the game can be entertaining, and that adds to its appeal. In the beginning of the game, you have a light blue box that contains a little red object. Your task is to get the red object from there to another part of the screen where there is a pink area. That is easier said than done; to get it there, you need to construct a vehicle with wheels, axles and all kinds of parts. The child's job is to build the vehicle out of mysterious-looking parts whose purpose doesn't entirely seem clear at first. It teaches your child the value of patience, and how you need to keep at it in the real world before you find out how something works.

Of all the games I brought to my children, Fantastic Contraption has been the biggest hit. It really is true; the more challenging and less available or approachable something is, the more children want it.

Making Your Education Work For You: Using The Internet To Your Best Advantage

Online degree educations and technical skills courses are notoriously difficult to complete without a bit of a fight. Most individuals have to fight to stay on top of their workload and can face problems as a result of not having direct supervision in the form of a lecturer and/or personal tutor. As a result, most online students are encouraged to search out the relevant information all on their own and only contact a supervisor as and when absolutely necessary. Although this can be difficult to achieve, there is a lot to be learned from it. The personal qualities are of immense value, but the possible future gains via a comprehensive education could end up being more important.

In terms of personal qualities, a student would have to work off his or her own initiative, and that requires the development of determination and self-sufficiency. However, in terms of the educational value of an online course, an individual will find that his or her research skills become advanced quite quickly. He or she will soon learn exactly what resources to look for and where to go for them. This is where an online student can use the Internet to his or her best advantage.

The Internet is an encyclopaedia of knowledge. There are so many online resources out there that it is difficult to know where to begin. The best place to start researching would actually be the resources offered by the online university or college that you have enrolled in. Most of them will have an online library that can be tapped into with an assigned username and password. There will often be a list of recommended reading that accompanies each course so it would be a good idea to start there.

However, if the recommended reading does not encompass everything you need to know then there are other online library websites that can be used for research purposes. JSTOR and the Gutenberg Library are just two that can provide a wealth of informative articles that may relate to your course. They are easy to search and you can actually choose to print the material out. Some, including JSTOR, may charge for certain articles but they are worth the small fee and far more accessible than the actual texts. You should ask your online education tutor if he or she could recommend some useful websites.

Another way to use the Internet to your advantage is to join a class forum, if there is one offered for your course. Many Internet class forums allow individuals to discuss assignments and other issues that are course related so that you do not fee totally alienated because you do not attend class. The forums can help you to socialize and complete assignments on time. If there is one for your classes then the tutor may also use it to communicate with students. This will make him or her more accessible too so you should definitely use it.

As well as having prime functions for communication and research, the Internet can provide a forum for submitting your work and applying for different classes. In truth, if you do not use the Internet for anything else then you should use it for looking ahead and planning out just what classes you will complete over a set period of time. This allows you to set targets for yourself and stick to them!

All in all, the Internet is an essential resource for an online student. Besides the obvious, it can actually serve as your bible during the course of your degree or training. Without it, there would be little point continuing. A hectic lifestyle may not allow you to complete a program of education in any other way so you should always capitalize on any opportunity to make the most of it. Research, communicate and plan for a better education and thus a better life!

Importance of music education

Schools and school districts across the country, from Hawaii to Maine, from Florida to Alaska and all stops in between, have had to severely cut back on funding for "extra-curricular activities." This can mean anything from sports programs, to drama, to music and art and beyond. And it's going to take a long-term toll on the students who are deprived of these activities, deprived of a more well-rounded, complete education.

The importance of music education, in particular, should not be underestimated. Americans lag behind in mathematics more than we do in most other subjects relative to the rest of the western world, and the very basis of music is math. When stressing the importance of music eduction, you're really stressing the importance of math education as well. It's key to understand that from the very first when considering the importance of music education.

Beyond the simple intuitive benefits - such as, a child sitting in his or her room playing the trumpet or guitar is much less likely to go out and get into trouble than a chile restlessly planning a nighttime excursion - there are other, measurable benefits delineated by numerous studies.

There is, of course, a strong correlation between music and academic achievement. Countries thoughout the world - be they in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa or beyond - that produce the most academically advanced teenagers almost uniformly have aggressive, comprehensive music education programs that begin as early as kindergarten. Early music education has been shown to improve not only an understanding of both basic and advanced mathematical concepts, but has also proved to be an emotional stabilizer for children learning to work within a group context. The ability to sing, or play on key at a given moment in concert with those around you develops the neurological pathways necessary for collaboration as seen in the professional environment later in life.

Proof of this are the myriad reports that many of the top executives and engineers at Silicon Valley companies either still are or had been recipients of a music education at some point in their lives. It may not seem to be a straight line from learning the recorder at a second grader to pulling down a six-figure-salary as an adult, but there are enough data points there to show the importance of music education in doing exactly that.

What's more, there are data points simply within the academic corricula that show the importance of music education. Everything from predicted college success to likelihood of emotional stability under the press of exams can show a positive impact from a musical education.

Importance of Music Education is Still Lost on Some People

An old friend of mine that I had not heard from in nearly 20 years called me up the other day and we talked for several hours. He said he had just been thinking about me and some the good times that we had had hanging out in high school, and just wanted to see what was going on in my life and what I had become.

“I always thought you would be a musician,” he said.

I was in band in high school and could play nearly every brass instrument. I have always been a great lover of music. That's why it really disturbed me when he told me that the music program at his daughter's school had been cut. It was then that I realized that the importance of music education is still lost on some people.

I asked him why the program had been terminated, and he told me that the school district was having to cut back on expenses, and the first things go were the fine arts programs. He told me that his daughter was just devastated, because she played flute in the band, and now could only practice on her own.

I have heard about this trend in some districts around the country, and I thank God that it was never an issue at my school. The importance of music education in my life has been paramount. I really feel that I am who I am today because of my exposure to music in school. I have become cultured because of it, and learned to appreciate the beauty of music and that was all fostered while I was in school.

The importance of music education is that it gives many students a break from the other core subjects students are required to take, like math, English, science and history, and allows them to explore their creativity.

Now, please don't mistake what I am trying to say. Obviously, math, English, science and history are the most important subjects at school, and there is a reason that they are stressed to the degree that they are, but music, art, dance or whatever creative medium a student may prefer enriches one's life in a way that those other subjects alone cannot.

The importance of music education can be seen by listening to your favorite musical group, and it does not matter what genre. At some point, those people were exposed to music education at an impressionable age, and are now creating music that you and millions of other people can enjoy on a daily basis.

In the play “Twelfth Night,” William Shakespeare wrote, “If music be the food of love, play on.” The importance of music education cannot be underestimated, and if I ever hear of music programs being considered for removal from my local school district, I will go to that school board meeting and protest.

Earning Your Masters of Education

Obtaining a masters of education may be the best investment of time, energy and money a teacher can make. Most school districts pay a higher salary scale to teachers with a masters degree. Some school districts even require all teachers to have a masters degree. And if you’re interested in pursuing a PhD, a masters of education is an essential prerequisite.

So, where do you start? How do you know which masters of education program is the right one for you? The first step is to ask yourself why you want this degree. Is it simply to get to the next step on your district’s salary schedule? There’s nothing wrong with that! But if that’s the case, then it won’t matter which program you enroll in. You’re looking for convenience and simplicity, not to mention affordability. The best option in that case may be to earn your masters of education online. There are literally thousands of accredited online universities through which you can earn a legitimate degree, and qualify for the corresponding pay raise. Many fine universities also offer online courses. Find a masters of education program which you can complete on your own time. After all, who has time to teach and attend classes and complete mountains of homework? Find a program which suits your schedule and won’t break the bank.

On the other hand, if you’re thinking ahead toward a PhD or employment outside the public school system, you may need to be more selective in choosing a masters of education course. In that case, you’ll have to consider which universities offer programs suited to your specific interests and needs. For example, you might be interested in urban education, literacy curricula, special education, or arts in education. Different universities have different specialties, and not all masters of education programs are identical. Do your research.

Lastly, when choosing where to get your masters of education, you must consider your personal priorities. Will you keep working while earning your degree? Then you’ll probably want the option of stretching out your coursework over several years, instead of cramming all your credits into one or two years of study. There just isn’t time to complete several courses while still working full time. Another question you’ll need to answer is: are you willing to relocate? How important is location?

Also, you must consider the issue of tuition. Getting your masters of education doesn’t have to be expensive, but at the most elite private schools it will cost $50,000 or more. That’s a tremendous load of student debt for someone on a school teacher’s salary to pay off. Of course, there is always assistance. Grants and scholarships are available for those willing to look for them. And if you’re planning to work, or if you’re already working, as a public school teacher, you may qualify for loan forgiveness from the federal government.

All-in-all, your masters of education options are many. Find the method that’s right for you, then go for it.

Educational Savings Accounts

When it comes to getting a college education, financing is one of the most important considerations that you will need to make. Unfortunately for far too many it is one the last considerations that is made when it comes to the educations of our children. If you are a parent you owe it your child and yourself to plan ahead and plan carefully in order to cover the cost of your child's education. There are fortunately, a few great ways in which you can do this.

The most common is to begin by opening up an educational savings account for your child (under the age of 18). When you open up an educational savings account for your child, you can contribute up to $2,000 per year per child. This is a combined total contribution however and includes the contributions of grandparents, friends, and family in addition to your own personal contributions. The money from these funds can be withdrawn tax-free as long as they are used for educational purposes.

Educational expenses in this case include books, tuition, fees, supplies, and college room and board provided that your child is at least a part-time student. If you do not use all the funds for your child there are options as far as what to do with the remaining funds in the account. The first option would be to leave the funds in the account and allow the account beneficiary to withdraw them up until the age of 30. There is a penalty involved and the beneficiary will be required to pay income tax on those funds. You could also elect to roll those funds over to the next child under the age of 18 who will have educational expenses in the future.

The money you set aside in these accounts to cover the cost of the education of your child or children is not tax-deductible however, it is a great way to begin saving money and investing in the future of your child. If you begin investing the maximum amount $2,000 per year upon birth your child should have a nice nest egg to help cover educational expenses. If your child is fortunate enough to qualify for scholarships and other sources of financial aid you can turn the funds over as a graduation gift or save it for the next college student in your family that comes along. Either way you've saved yourself a good part of the worry that goes along with providing for your family by having this fund set up for your children.

You can sign up for programs like Upromise in order to subsidize your contributions with donations from corporate sponsors as their way of thanking you for buying their products or using their services on any credit cards that you, your friends, and your family members have registered to go into your child's account. Every edge you give yourself when it comes to investing in the education of your children is an edge worth having. College tuition rates are rising at an alarming rate while corporate expectations of college degrees are rising at the same near lightening speed. This means that a college degree is more critical for our children than in any past generations.

Take the time now to check into securing the future of your children by establishing an educational savings account. Let friends and family know that any gifts they are planning to give your children that involve money would be appreciated if they instead invested in the future of your children rather than the now. You can also ask your friends and family to sign up their credit cards with Upromise in order to provide a little bump in donations to your child's college savings account. These little steps add up to significant savings over the course of 18 years. You just might find that the investment you are making is adequate to cover the costs of your child's tuition in full.

Does Teaching Physical Education to Girl Students and and Offering Equal Opportunities in Sports Help them in Life?

We all take boys'and girls' sporting teams in high school and college athletics for granted today. Before the 70s, female students at schools and colleges certainly participated in athletics and other sports; but they did so without any help from a proper policy or any official vision of where their endeavors here were headed. And then came the federal law directed at the situation, Title IX, that forever changed the role of girls in a school's athletic ambitions. Certainly this did make a difference to the way girl students began to see themselves, and how they saw society believe in them. But a more tangible answer would be more satisfying. Does it make a better person of the girl as she grows up, that she has the chance to express herself through sports? Does teaching physical education, and giving girl students an outlet in team play and organized sports help them become better people?

There is of course plenty of research that aims to and succeeds in showing how involvement in sports, often results in better-adjusted teenaged girls, ones that do better at exams, who feel better about themselves, and who do not succumb to teenage pregnancies. Research always does show that there is some correlation between how girls who participate in sports also succeed in these ways. But there is no actual cause-and-effect established between the two yet. It could well be that girls who are athletic, already have the will and the wherewithal to stay out of trouble. Teaching physical education might help girls do better when they already are partial to sports. You could equally well argue that teaching music to girls who are musical, might also bring the same kind of results.

Title IX , the education amendment that was introduced in 1972, enjoins that schools and colleges that accept government subsidies, treat boys students and girls exactly the same. College students, both boys and girls, don't really participate much in sporting events between colleges. But once the Title IX law came into effect, schools and colleges around the country saw a quantum jump in the number of girls who participated. Five or six times as many girls did, soon after the new act came into force. Girls who show active interest in sports, do better at their jobs later in life. It isn't easy usually to do studies like this. The researchers don't ever get to know the girls they are studying - there might be extraneous reasons that they haven't been aware of, like poverty, or ill health. But a safe estimate is, that Title IX, the act that requires girls and boys to be treated equally in school, actually allows girls to do better in life, in their relationships, and in their professions. It is clear to see, that sports is directly involved in allowing a person to learn and practice some of the best life skills possible.

It doesn't end there; teaching physical education to schoolgirls, also has effects on their health, long-term. Girls who went to school after the act came into effect, are less obese today, and enjoy better feelings of self-respect. Of course, girls don't rush forward to get into a school sporting team. There are lots of states that still struggle with giving the girl students a proper all-round education. But whichever way it goes, one thing is clear; teaching physical education to schoolchildren, whether boys or girls, can grant them a much better chance in life.

Global Warming: How to Educate Those That You Know

Whether you watched Al Gore’s awarding winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, or if you happened to watch a news report on global warming, you may be shocked with what you saw. If the predictions are right, and many scientists, meteorologists, and computer models believe that they are, you may want to take action right away. The good news is that you do have a number of different options.

When it comes to joining the fight against global warming, many are unsure as to how they should proceed, as well as if they can afford to do so. After a little bit of research, many individuals are surprised with how easy and affordable it is to help do their part to end the global warming crisis. Just a few of the many steps that you can take involves purchasing an energy efficient vehicle, carpooling, limiting your driving, switching all or most of the light bulbs in your home to energy efficient ones, as well as making sure that all appliances are turned off when not in use.

Although you may take a number of steps to help combat global warming, you may also wonder what the purpose of doing so is. If this is a question that you have asked yourself, you are not alone. While any carbon dioxide reducing steps you take will help, it is important to remember that you cannot fight global warming alone. That is why you may want to take steps to educate you friends, family, or community members on this important issue.

When speaking with friends and family members, many individuals are unsure as to exactly how they can go about doing so. In fact, many are worried about seeming pushy or overbearing. Speaking of which this is an issue that should first be discussed. As important as global warming is and as important as it is to take action, you will want to refrain from pushing your views on those that you know or even those that you do not know. Unfortunately, if you start out listing the ways that your friends or family can stop global warming, you may run into some problems. It is first important to carefully touch on the problem of global warming. When looking for an opening, you may find the following suggestions helpful.

One of the many options that you have involves summarizing a movie or a news report that you may have seen. As outlined above, Al Gore has an award winning documentary available for rent or for purchase. Many experts and viewers report that this documentary had a profound affect on them. If it did for you, you may want to ask your friends, family members, neighbors, or coworkers if they have seen the documentary or another one. If not, you may want to recommend it and give a summary of what global warming is and list a few ways that they can help, such as by using energy efficient light bulbs.

In addition to just recommending a global warming documentary or television report, or even energy efficient light bulbs, you may want to take action yourself. If you have any close friends or family members who have a birthday soon approaching or if Christmas is around the corner, you may want to consider giving these items as gifts. Of course, a documentary on global warming and energy efficient light bulbs isn’t always on everyone’s wish list. For that reason, be sure these items are not the only gifts given, as you may become that pushy, overbearing person that you were trying to avoid becoming, as outlined above.

As a reminder, there are a number of steps that you can take to help combat global warming, but the more people who help do so, the better the results will be. That is why you may want to carefully discuss global warming and the impact it may have on the earth and our future families with your close friends and family members.

Public Education Policy and the Achievement Gap

President George W. Bush’s 2001 No Child Left Behind Law was the first federal education policy which explicitly attempted to address the so-called achievement gap between white and non-white students in America. By now it is well documented that children of color under perform academically compared to their white peers. Can any education policy hope to eliminate this achievement gap and guarantee equal educational outcomes for all?

Before examining the different education policy proposals and schools of thought, it might be more constructive to inspect the root causes of gaps in educational outcomes. No public policy can hope to correct a social problem if it’s not clear what exactly the problem is.

Yet, although you will find general consensus on the existence of an achievement gap, you will not find unanimous agreement on its causes. In the discourse on education policy, some have attributed the problem to unequal school funding systems, in which property values are linked to school support. Others have pointed out that increases in funding to the poorest schools has not yielded a corresponding increase in student academic performance. Therefore, they conclude that the problem in education policy is not under-funding, but rather a poorer quality of instruction at failing schools. This lower quality of instruction has been attributed to incompetent administration, unions protecting bad teachers, lack of accountability, and other factors.

So how can public education policy properly address these concerns? Certainly the first step is to guarantee equality in school funding. But it is clear from the evidence over the last 30 years that money is not the answer to improving educational outcomes. More money has consistently not corresponded with better academic results, nor with a narrowing of the achievement gap. Money in itself is not the answer.

It is possible, however, to address the question of instructional quality at the public policy level. The challenge is to move away from tired arguments about standards and accountability, which do little to deal with the underlying problems in failing schools. Indeed, the problem with our public education policy is not the we don’t expect enough; it’s that we don’t provide schools with the resources they need to accomplish the high standards to which we hope to hold them accountable.

This does not mean, once again, that the best education policy is one which funnels more and more money into the system. On the contrary, more money often only invites more corruption and has an adverse effect on educational outcomes. Instead, policy should focus more on how funds are spent in education. A good education policy should ensure that spending is focused on the classroom, not on the surrounding bureaucracy. Funds should be set aside to attract experienced, competent educators in the highest need areas. Money should be allocated for after school programs for the neediest children. Pre-kindergarten instruction should be offered to all. These minor changes in spending would constitute the most effective reform in education policy, without requiring increases in taxing or spending.

Educational Benefits of Origami

No doubt it's difficult for a teacher to continuously make a subject, such as math interesting for their students. Many students, especially younger children find mathematics boring. One great way to spice up a math class is to introduce the art of origami. This activity will ensure the students have fun while learning many beneficial and educational things. First of all origami can be used as a history lesson and a look into other cultures such as the Japanese culture. This activity is very prominent in Japan and students can learn how this activity is used and why it is important there.

Educational benefits of origami include learning how to listen and be attentive. In order to ensure success in an origami project, the student must listen carefully to instructions and pay very close attention to their actions. Origami requires precision and neatness which will demand the student to be focused. These learning tools will teach a student to have pride in their work which will in turn promote self-esteem.

The art of origami has the potential to teach children cooperative learning. This too is an important lesson in the classroom as well as in life. Learning how to communicate and interact with others is essential. Origami is an activity that encourages students to help others. Some children will catch on to origami faster than others. Helping other students can promote feelings of pride and self-esteem. Of course the positive interaction is quite beneficial.

The mathematics of origami is significant. Using this activity is definitely an educational benefit in the area of math. Using just a single, flat piece of paper, the students will create objects that are three dimensional. This will require the students to use logical reasoning and explore mathematical aspects such as symmetry, algebra and geometry. The students, while doing origami will be learning these concepts perhaps without even realizing it. The art of paper folding involves the use of these three mathematical concepts which when practiced are educational benefits.

Origami encourages cognitive development. Practicing the art of origami requires students to use their motor skills. Using both hands; working together, the student must learn how to manipulate the paper to achieve their goal. The student must repeatedly carry out certain steps in order reach the suggested result. These actions require memory and motor skills, both necessary for the project and in every day life.

The educational benefits of origami are great. This activity when used in the classroom or in a school teaches students how to behave and get along in a group setting. It's also a terrific project to work on as a group activity and goal. It's imperative to teach students to maintain a healthy relationship with other students. It's essential to teach a group of students how to use their individual skills to achieve one goal.

To learn more about the educational benefits of origami, you can find plenty of valuable information on the Internet. Because this activity is being recognized for its many advantages, there is plenty of written material available both printed and on the Internet. Using one of the Internet's search engines, you can quickly be linked to a world of origami details.

Online Computer Training - Education At Your Fingertips

With the advent of the internet came online gaming, dating, mail (Email), auctioning and many other forms of commerce. One major step was making online computer training available. Today there are many sites dedicated solely to computer training. The US Military has gone so far as to make classroom learning available to it's members through online computer training. There are countless member of the US Armed Forces on a daily basis connecting to the internet and taking online computer courses. The military has gone so far as to take the majority of their military related training and put it online. Members either take online computer training to earn points toward a promotion or their degree. They do this from different points across the globe - even while at sea. In this way a soldier stationed in a foreign country doesn't lose the opportunity to obtain a college education. Also, there are numerous military bases that have set up 'internet cafes' for this purpose. From these locations, those without their own personal computer (PC) are also provided the opportunity to participate in online computer training.

Computer training takes advantage of listening, and reading. Hands-on, is simply not an option. Online computer training is especially helpful with taking courses directly related to computers. There is a plethora of different computer training courses available online: learning a foreign language, writing courses, computer courses, degrees, certifications and more.

A Google search for online computer training opportunities results in numerous online institutions. Not only institutions, but certification in the various computer programming languages are available as well as computer applications.

A typical computer training website offers training courses in office skills, business skills, technical skills, web design and formal Microsoft training. In addition to this discounts are usually available to large groups such as a company per se. Through these sites, a student can learn at his or her own pace, save progress and generate course completion certificates instantly.

For those wishing to obtain certificated training only, there are many sites available. The Professional Education Institute is a prime example for this type of computer training. This particular company provides licensing for various subjects.

Aside from online computer training, there is also offline computer training available. Often, the student pays for the course in advance. A Compact Disk (CD) containing the course materials is sent to the student. In most instances, there are quizzes and mini-tests leading up to a final exam. Upon completion, the student emails a file to the originator and a completion certificate is returned to the student.

Fully Accredited Online Education Degrees

I was recently downsized from my IT job as the company is fighting to stay afloat in these troubled economic times. I've been floating my resume out there for the past couple of weeks, but competition for jobs in this sector is fiercer than ever, and I haven't even gotten so much as a nibble from any employers thus far. I seriously think that a career change might be in order here, as I would prefer working in a field that is always in demand no matter what the economy is like. For instance, the public school system always needs teachers, so that's an option I'm currently checking out.

The biggest obstacle to landing a teaching position is obtaining the proper credentials. I'm not exactly looking forward to going back to school at my age, and can't really imagine sitting in a classroom with a bunch of 18-year-olds, so I would rather get an online education degree instead. I did a bit of research the other day and learned that there are a number of quality institutions that offer online education degrees these days, and that these programs are just as rigorous as those taught in regular classrooms. Most of the programs can be completed entirely on the Internet, meaning that I never even have to step foot on campus in order to fulfill the requirements.

Finding the right school for an online education degree depends on a lot of different variables. Cost was a big one for me. Since I'm out of a job now, I don't want to run through all of my savings too quickly. I need to take into account not only the basic tuition rate, but also any extra fees and textbook costs that I'm likely to incur as a student. These extras add up quickly, and greatly increase the total cost of online education degrees, so I've made examining the bottom line my top priority.

Another important consideration before enrolling in an online education degree program is the accreditation status of the college or university. Some "schools" are little more than diploma mills where you can essentially buy certification on the basis of life experience. Obviously, you're not going to get real, accredited online education degrees simply by paying for them, so don't waste your money. By attending an accredited institution, you ensure that future employers and graduate school admissions officers will take your credentials seriously and give you the same consideration as candidates who sat through traditional classes.

And finally, before applying to an online education degree program, I recommend checking out the courses required for graduation to see if they're actually relevant to what you want to teach in the future. You'd be surprised at how many programs out there force students to take an exorbitant number of classes outside the major field of study. If you think that's just wasting money, then keep looking until you find something more to your liking.

Accredited online education degrees have been opening career doors for new teachers all across the country. If becoming a teacher is something you've always dreamed of, then take the first step towards your certification today!

Increase your skill set and marketability the easy way: online education courses that suit your schedule!

In today's world, it's essential that you keep your skill set fresh and marketable. Job security isn't what it used to be, so no matter what your field of work, it's a good idea to be up to date on the latest information pertaining to your career. Making this extra effort makes you more valuable to your employer, which naturally results in better job security and possibly, raises! If you're currently employed in what you consider to be a dead end job, work yourself into a field where advancement is possible, at a higher rate of pay, in a field you enjoy. Given any of these scenarios, how do you do this? Online education courses are the answer.

Online education programs are abundant, ranging from obtaining your G.E.D. to email online education courses, right on through to a PhD. If you're going for a certificate or degree program, you'll want to be sure the school is accredited, as this carries weight with a prospective employer. Let's take a look at some of the possibilities:

Let's say you'd like to get into website design, but don't have a clue as to how to begin. Try Googling 'website design free tutorials'. You'll find there are tons of free online education courses, ranging from short, introductory email courses to downloadable books and online tutorials that will give you the basics. Then you can move on to more sophisticated online education courses in website design, building on the skills of your previous lessons. Best of all, all of this knowledge can be gained 24/7, on your schedule!

If you don't have a high school diploma, there are hundreds of websites with online education courses specifically designed to get your G.E.D. You are provided with practice tests, which covers the types of material given in the G.E.D. test.

Once you've got your G.E.D., you can move right on to online education courses given by your local community college. Go for a certificate program, such as an x-ray technician or pharmacy technician. You might also opt for pursuing an A.A. or A.S. degree.

If you already have an A.A. or A.S., you'd be well advised to increase your marketability by getting your Bachelor's degree. With a Bachelor's, you can expect to enjoy significantly higher pay and more interesting job possibilities. You'll also find Masters and PhD programs online.

Online education courses have opened many a door for tens of thousands of people just like you. Most online, accredited colleges and universities offer counseling services that provide guidance on obtaining scholarships and grants. Many offer discounts on course fees for people who have served in the military.

A good education can change your life and future.

Distance Education Program

Finding the perfect distance education program can be a bit trickier than you might think. Although thousands of accredited distance learning programs exist in many different fields of study, not all of them are equal. Some require more work than others, some have more qualified teachers than others, and some will get you further in the real world than others will.

With distance education programs, it all depends on what you want to get out of the classes you take. A surprising number of people take a correspondence course not for the certificate, but for the joy of learning something new. After all, it is an economical and practical way to study something that you love. All course materials are provided for a reasonable fee, and there are deadlines to make sure that students stay on task.

Of course, the vast majority of folks in a distance education program are there because they want to get some valuable career training that will take them further in life. If this is your motivation, then it is important to verify whether or not your distance education program will really help you to get a better paying job. This may sound obvious, but it is not as straightforward as it seems. Every year, thousands of people fall for distance learning programs that promise more than they can deliver. Training alone is not enough - you need to verify what certificate you need and make sure that your distance education program delivers that certificate.

Fortunately, nowadays it is easier than ever to research distance education programs. Back in the old days, people would find distance education program information in newspaper adds and be forced to correspond through the mail. Back then, it was very hard to find out if you were getting the real deal before you had already given them your money and signed up for the course. Now that we have the Internet, however, you should not settle for a distance learning education program that does not answer all your questions. Find out what the course load is, whether there is a professor available to answer questions that you have during the class, whether there are online lectures available, and anything else that seems important to you. Once you find out all you can, then you can begin to make an educated choice as to which distance education program is the right choice for you.

Funding for Education Comes in Many Forms

In my career as a freelance writer, I have had the opportunity to cover some of the top-performing schools in my part of the country, and one of the thing that always impresses me about those schools is the number of ways the school officials, teachers and parents are able to come up with funding for education.

I wrote a story on the PTA at a local elementary school that was trying to raise money for new computers in classrooms. They decided to have what they called a walk-a-thon, where students at the school asked people to donate a certain amount of money for however far they walked. By the time that all was said and done, the school had raised enough money to buy six new computers.

Another story that I wrote was about a group called the Education Foundation, which worked to raise funding for education throughout the entire district. This organization was made up almost entirely of parents who were also business owners or other professionals and devoted a portion of their time each week to raising funds for various needs within the school district.

This group would write grants and hold charity events or auctions, and do whatever it could to raise funding for education that, according to a number of teachers, was something they had come to rely upon a great deal. Many of the teachers told me that if it was not for the Education Foundation, they would not be able to expose their students to the same kind of educational experiences they currently enjoy.

I soon began to realize that the reason that these schools were so highly regarded and performing at such a high level was because of the hard work of parents and teachers to provide funding for education so that the best resources were made available to their children.

One of the Education Foundation members actually thanked me and said that the local newspapers were one of the greatest tools for the foundation. I asked her what she meant, and she explained to me that having stories written in the newspaper gives fund-raising events a lot more publicity, and they get a lot more money as a result. That made me feel really proud.

I had never really given a whole lot of thought as to why some schools and districts perform better than others. I figured that the wealthier districts simply had better facilities and access to more resources.

What I was not aware of, however, was exactly how that all came about and all of the hard work that goes into raising funding for education. Now that I have had the opportunity to see it first-hand, I will always have more respect for volunteer groups that make that their mission.

The need for adult continuing eduction

Times are different these days. Back even two decades ago, once you had a good job you were in that job for life. Go back further and you could even say that once your father had a good job, you were pretty much assured of being able to follow in his footsteps. These legacy jobs were especially prominent in the automotive industry, where GM and Ford had what was almost an institutional policy of hiring the sons (and sometimes, daughters) of their employees. President Obama even highlighted this in his campaign, and specifically how people who thought their futures were secure have had to change their outlook.

This is why adult continuing education has become so important. Not only have some of America's biggest companies gone belly-up (hello, Chrysler!), but the companies that still actually do business in the US are looking for highly skilled, specialized workers that a good old high school diploma - and in some cases, even a college degree - just can't prepare you for.

Colleges have taken advantage of this surge in twenty-and-thirty-somethings returning to school by opening their doors to night classes, summer programs, weekend classes, et cetera. New York University, for example, offers adult continuing education classes in everything from computer networking to accounting to electrical engineering. All of these jobs are in high demand, and a degree in one of those fields (which in some cases must be followed up with a licence to practice) can provide the type of job security that msot people are desperate for in these uncertain financial times.

While finding a new field or a better job is one of the primary reasons adult continuing education has boomed recently, there are other reasons as well: The rapid advance of technology has made people who were once secure in their high-tech jobs suddenly wary of being overtaken by the times. Folks who graduated from college in the '90s with degrees in computer engineering or networking don't have obsolete degrees, but the information from their classes at that time are damn near obsolete. Computer networks have changed drastically over the last ten years, with new codes and languages and - in the case of Linux - entirely new operating systems cropping up seemingly every day. These are people who, like doctors or lawyers, need to keep their knowledge of their field of work current. As such, many many folks are entering adult continuing education classes to avoid becoming a casualty of an out-dated understanding of technology.

So go online and search for the adult continuing education classes that best fit your need. Because being fully functional in today's workforce is an absolute must.

Distance Education Classes Can Be Convenient and Difficult at the Same Time

Throughout my college career, I took the bulk of my courses at the university, but I did take about three or four distance education classes, as well. What I found out was, while they can be very convenient in that you can work from home or wherever you want, they can also be difficult, because the instructor has to make up for the lack of lecture time, which usually comes in the form of reading and extra assignments.

I received a bachelor's degree in psychology about 10 years ago, and my last few semesters in college I opted for some distance education classes. I was interning and working and generally a very busy person who had to be a lot of places at a lot of different times.

I had two of my basics that I had not yet taken, including an economics class and a business class, and I opted to do the courses online. I figured that it would make it easier for me to be able to work from home or on my lunch break at my internship.

The distance education classes that I took were more convenient in certain regards. I could wake up later in the morning. I could work on my coursework whenever I wanted to, which was often late at night, and I only had to make a trip to the university three or four times a semester to take the exams for each class.

The problem was, with a lack of lectures from a live professor, there was about twice as much reading as I would have with a traditional college class, and there were two or three books and other supplemental reading for which I also had to pay.

There was also special software that I needed for both distance education classes that I not only had to pay for, but also had to install on my own computer. I am not the most technologically-savvy person, so that presented quite a challenge for me.

Another difficulty with the distance education classes that I took was that it seemed like there was always a quiz or other assignment that I had to work on, and those had to be completed on a certain time scale. While it is often assumed that distance education classes are largely self-paced, I did not find them to be that way.

Now, my sister has taken practically nothing but distance education classes since she started college two years ago and loves them. I am not saying that they are bad or should not be utilized when necessary, but I would be prepared for some difficulties that usually are not addressed when such classes are offered.

Is an Online Education Right for You?

We live in the information age. We have grown so accustomed to information at the speed of light that the prospect of not having immediate access to countless numbers of facts and figures with the mere click of a few buttons for many of us is simply disconcerting. For this reason, it only makes sense that there are many people across the nation and around the world that are embracing the idea of online learning and educational opportunities with every ounce of enthusiasm they can muster.

At the same time there are equal numbers of people around the world who are trying desperately to hold on to traditional methods of dealing with certain things. In fact, some people actually still play solitaire with a deck of playing cards. For people who feel that the information age has left them behind to some degree the chances are quite good that online learning may not be the best available option for you.

Below you will find a few questions that can help you narrow down whether or not you would truly benefit by taking some of the many online courses that are being offered in today's information age of learning.

1) Are you disciplined? This may seem like such an innocuous question because we would all like to think that we are disciplined to some degree. The problem is that when you are in the driver's seat for your own education you need to have a little more than some small degree of discipline. You need to be able to meet deadlines, take the tests, and hold yourself responsible for actually learning the information that you need to learn in order to pass the course. There is no one to blame but yourself if you do not manage to do well in your online classes and some people simply do not like being in the drivers seat when it comes to motivating and pacing themselves and their learning practices.

2) How do you learn best? We all have different methods of learning for which we retain information better than others. Online courses are reading intensive. If you have difficulties retaining the information you read you may need to find an alternate learning method or seek solutions with the assistance of the course instructor before moving forward in an online learning environment.

3) Do you have a true desire to succeed? The answer to this question is quite important in determining whether or not online learning is in your best interest. There are many paths you can take in order to achieve the education and degree you desire. This is not the path of the masses, at least not yet. This type of learning, more than any other is easy to give up on through apathy. If you aren't determined to do the assignments, to study the notes, and to really learn the material that is presented to you then you really do not need to waste your time or the instructor's time by continually making up excuses. Online courses are largely self-paced but you do have a limited amount of time in which to learn the material before you need to move on. The teacher is responsible for providing you the information and material but you are responsible for everything that happens from that moment on. Are you ready for that responsibility?

Whether you are a first time college student or a professional that is returning to school after a long absence online learning can open new doors of opportunity for your learning pleasure. You must be willing to walk through those doors and take the information that is presented to you however in order to be successful. My sincere hope is that everyone reading this will carefully consider whether or not the lack of structure that many online courses provides is going to be conducive to your specific learning and educational needs before taking the plunge.

Get The Advantage: Overcoming The Negative Aspects Of An Online Education

Any individual that has researched online education or training will no doubt be well aware of the possible disadvantages that choosing an online degree or training course holds over choosing to learn in an academic or technical institution. The majority of resources available will highlight the problems so everyone considering an online course will be aware of them before they enrol. However, the one thing that these resources fail to mention is the fact that the negative aspects of an online course can easily be avoided if you know how!

Some of the negative elements associated with taking an online degree need to be dealt with before enrolling on the course, some during online education and the remaining problems may only present themselves afterwards so you must be prepared. If you deal with them as they come then you will have no problems at all!

The first potential problem is the credibility of taking an online course. This actually refers to degrees from online schools rather than more technical or practical training courses that are often set up to train individual workers by the company that employs them. In order to avoid any problems associated with online degrees, the relevant checks should be carried out before enrolling in a program. The credibility of the online university should always be examined because there are too many schools that bear accredited status but have been given that status by a sister company. These universities and school are not valid and potential employers would discard any qualification given out by them.

However, there are online schools that are validly accredited, such as the University of Phoenix. Any good school will be happy to reveal the source of its accreditation, and this should actually be displayed on the homepage or the "about us" page. Having knowledge of the source would be an excellent idea for future job interviews and resume because this will give any qualification an impressive legitimacy.

A problem that you may be faced with during the course of your degree is the level of discipline that is required in order to complete all of the assignments and tasks that are a part of the course. You can prepare for this in advance by setting up a timetable that fits in well with your day-to-day routine. A schedule can be altered to fit circumstances at any given time but planning what you are doing well in advance would give you an edge over the lure of procrastination that you will most definitely face at some stage!

If you need a helping hand to ensure that you get all work associated with an online degree completed, then find a place to go when you find that you cannot work in the home. Some individuals may head to a local library, others a coffee shop, but every individual online student should choose the place that most inspires them to work. Of course, it is completely up to you to find that place. You could try several places before settling on the one that suits you best.

The final problem that you are guaranteed to face at some time or other is employer attitudes to online degrees. Although attitudes are changing, more conservative and traditional employers will unfortunately question you as to why you took an online degree instead of attending a campus-based course. Every online student should have a rehearsed answer that sounds natural and credible. Explaining personal circumstances is not enough. You should also justify the school of your choosing. This is where having knowledge of where the school was accredited and who by comes in useful. Your argument for completing an online course should also be backed up by a brief description of the classes taken and the skills and traits that you have picked up as a result, because these skills can be of use to potential employers.

Of course, there are other problems that will be associated with your online education, but this represents the three most pressing problems that you will have to deal with. Be prepared for them, as well as any others that come your way and you will almost certainly be able to turn any negatives into positives, and that is a trick necessary when completing an online education!
